Founded in 1932 when they were known as the Boston Braves, the Washington Redskins are one of the oldest franchises in the National Football League. The Redskins were located in Boston until 1937, when the team moved to the nation's capital -- and they've been known as the Washington Redskins ever since.
Washington has had plenty of success in its rich history. The Redskins won two NFL Championships prior to the AFL-NFL merger in 1937 and 1942, and have appeared in five Super Bowls -- winning three times.
The Redskins last won the NFC in 1991 -- when they went on to win Super Bowl XXVI, 37-24 over the Buffalo Bills. In 2016, the team also announced plans for a new stadium. Exciting news for the Redskins!
