About the Memphis Grizzlies
Founded in 1995, the Memphis Grizzlies were originally known as the Vancouver Grizzlies – and are one of the NBA's youngest franchises. The Grizzlies struggled mightily in British Columbia, never winning more than 23 games in a single season – including an 8-42 season in 1998-99. The Grizzlies relocated from Vancouver to Memphis after just six seasons, and began play in Tennessee during the 2001-02 season.
After another pair of futile seasons, the Grizzlies finally broke through in 2003-04, qualifying for the playoffs for the first time in franchise history. Memphis would go on and qualify for the playoffs in three consecutive seasons between 2004-06, but never advanced past the first round.
Memphis broke through again in 2011, winning their first-ever playoff series and advancing to the Western Conference semifinals. In 2013, the Grizzlies advanced all the way to the Western Conference finals.
