The Chiefs were established in 1960, as a member of the American Football League – and were originally known as the Dallas Texans, prior to moving to Kansas City in 1963, when they became the Chiefs. While in the AFL, the Chiefs won three AFL championships, in 1962 (as the Texans), 1966 and 1969.
Kansas City appeared in Super Bowl I, but lost to the Green Bay Packers, 35-10. Three years later, the Chiefs returned to the Super Bowl, defeating the Minnesota Vikings, 23-7 – constituting Kansas City's only Super Bowl win, as well as the franchise's last Super Bowl appearance.
The Chiefs returned to prominence in the 90s, making the playoffs in six consecutive seasons between 1990-95 under Marty Schottenheimer, but never made it to the Super Bowl. Since then, the Chiefs haven't made it back to the playoffs in consecutive seasons – but that could change in 2015.
Under Andy Reid, the Chiefs went from having the worst offense in the league in 2012, to having the sixth-best in 2013. Now, the Chiefs are one of the best teams in the NFL with Alex Smith, Jamaal Charles, and Reid all back in 2018-2019! Chiefs fans can expect to watch their favorite team light up the scoreboard yet again in 2018-2019.
