Biography: James William Buffett was born on December 25, 1946, in Pascagoula, Mississippi. He grew up on the Gulf Coast of Florida. Buffett began his musical career in Nashville,Tennessee during the late 1960s as a country artist, but switched to his "island escapism" persona after embarking on a busking expedition to Key West, and taking to the tropical culture readily. This move saw a clever blending of country, folk and tropical themed sounds in Buffett's portfolio, and he has never looked back since. Buffett's concerts are legend among his loyal fans, known as "Parrotheads", and it is said that the scenes in the parking lots of the arenas are as good as the shows themselves. Fans deck themselves out in tropical attire, and some bring inflatable palm trees to the events. In fact, some people even create their own little "beaches" by bringing along large quantities of sand and water and a deckchair or two. And, of course, there is the prerequisite frozen drink in hand.
Aside from involving himself with personalities such as Herman and Alan Jackson in various musical projects, Buffett also owns two restaurants chains, Margaritaville, and Cheeseburger in Paradise, both named after two of his best known songs. He has also written 3 Number One bestselling books of fiction and a Number One bestselling book of non-fiction.
