About the Atlanta Falcons

The Atlanta Falcons were founded in 1966 as an expansion team in the National Football League. Atlanta's history hasn't been filled with much success so far, as the Falcons have only appeared in one Super Bowl -- in 1998. Atlanta turned a corner in the '00s, when they selected Michael Vick to be the Falcons' franchise quarterback. Vick led the Falcons to the playoffs, and led Atlanta to a playoff win at Lambeau Field -- which many believed to be a passing of the torch from the old quarterbacks, like Brett Favre, to the future quarterbacks, like Vick.

Unfortunately for the Falcons and Vick, injuries derailed the all-world talent, and scandal struck years later, as Vick was sentenced to 23 months in prison for his role in a dogfighting ring.

Atlanta turned the corner quickly, and selected former Boston College quarterback Matt Ryan with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2008 NFL Draft. Since then, Ryan has led the Falcons to playoffs in 2008, 2010, 2011 and 2012 -- leading Atlanta to the NFC title game in 2012.

Offensively, the Falcons are one of the most explosive teams in the NFL. Ryan has proven he's one of the better quarterbacks in the league, and has the exciting Julio Jones to throw to.

Will the Falcons take the next step this season, and bring Atlanta its first-ever Super Bowl title? Only time will tell!
